Action Hackney Council: We Have A Right To Homes Free From Violence!

East End Sisters Uncut calls on the government and Hackney Council to:

Refuse to implement the Housing Act!

Abolish all plans to demolish council homes!

Invest money into council housing and refuges!

Join us outside Hackney Town Hall at 12pm on Saturday July 9th!

Securing safe and permanent housing is an overwhelming struggle for women fleeing domestic violence. This issue is particularly acute in Hackney, where 60% of women seeking sanctuary are turned away from refuge and nationally, around 13% of all homeless acceptances are now related to domestic abuse.

Make no mistake, the government intends to destroy social housing in Hackney. Since 2014, the government has pushed ahead with a destructive policy that has decimated refuges, eroded affordable housing and thrown survivors onto the mercy of the market. As a result, Hackney Council is set to DEMOLISH 915 COUNCIL HOMES in ‘estate regeneration,’ and will LOSE A FURTHER 700 to the Housing Act. Those could be safe homes for women fleeing domestic violence!
