FAQs

Why should I become a member of Momentum?

Momentum is a network of over 23,000 members, 150 local groups and 200,000 supporters who are committed to electing a Labour Government and building a fair society that leaves no one behind.

Joining Momentum enables you to attend meetings and take part in grassroots campaigns alongside other activists, building a movement with a positive vision for a transformed society.

Who is eligible to join Momentum?

Anyone is eligible for Momentum membership provided they meet the following criteria:

  • Aged 14 or over
  • Is a member of the Labour Party and no other political party nor an organisation disallowed by the National Coordination Group
  • Agrees to be bound by the rules of Momentum, including its code of ethics.

What does membership allow me to do?

Being a Momentum member allows you to do the following:

  1. Attend local group organisational meetings as well as public meetings;

  2. Vote in local group meetings;

  3. Stand for key positions in local groups;

  4. Vote in national-level elections and online ballots.

What should I do if I am not sure if I’m a member or want to find out my membership number and don’t have a Membership e-Card?

Write to membership@peoplesmomentum.com

How do I find my local group?

Check the Momentum Groups Map to see if there are any groups local to you.

What do I if there is no local group near me?

If there isn’t a group near you, and you would like to set one up, email us at groups@peoplesmomentum.com to request a group set-up.

We will then advise you of the viability of a group in your area and send you information regarding set-up procedure and best practice.
You may want to set up a group because you and others find it difficult to travel to your nearest local meeting (although there are often members of local groups who are only more than happy to offer lifts to those who have difficulties getting to meetings).
So to begin with there may be only a handful of members in your area who want to set up a local group; that’s fine, smaller groups may become part of a larger regional umbrella group.

How do I notify Momentum’s National Office of a change in key contacts/social media managers/data managers?

Email groups@peoplesmomentum.com with the full name, contact number and email address of the person/ people taking up the new positions.

What are Momentum's company structures?
