NEC Elections 2018

There will soon be elections for all nine CLP representatives to serve for approximately two years on the National Executive Committee (NEC). The Labour left will support candidates for these positions via the Centre-Left Grassroots Alliance (CLGA). In order to identify the strongest possible candidates for these positions, Momentum is looking for applications from people who have the commitment and ability to represent party members on Labour’s most important committee. Please note that only candidates who meet the person specification and who are committed to attending all NEC meetings and related activities for the entire duration of the two year period will be considered for being put forward by Momentum in discussions with the CLGA. No candidates will be guaranteed places on the slate, but the experience of candidates who already serve on the NEC will be taken into account. People who are thinking of standing as Parliamentary candidates during the two year duration of the term should not apply.

Equalities and Diversity

Momentum is committed to applying its equal opportunities policy at all stages of the prioritisation of candidates and encourages applications from people of all backgrounds.

All candidates offered an interview will be asked whether they have any requirements to support them in attending the interview. Reasonable adjustments to the process will be made to ensure that no applicant is disadvantaged because of his/her disability.

Momentum aims to support candidates who are most suited to the particular position, but also to actively attract applicants from groups that we identify as being under-represented in Labour movement structures, including the NEC. The final CLGA slate will include at least 5 women and 2 BAME candidates, and will improve representation in geographical regions currently underrepresented on the NEC.

How to apply

The application process will open on Monday 8th January at 12 noon. To apply, please read the person specification and fill in the application form, as well as an equalities monitoring form (optional) before emailing them into before midnight on Sunday 14th January. Candidates who apply outside of the deadline will not ne considered. Applicants will be chosen by an NCG panel, and may be asked for a follow-up interview with members of the panel on the Wednesday 17th or Thursday 18th January

Successful applicants will then be promoted by Momentum to be candidates in discussions with the CLGA, and once all the candidates are finally selected, Momentum will campaign on behalf of them. Please note that because Momentum is only one out of a number of organisations which has input into the CLGA, gaining the support of Momentum does not guarantee getting the final support of the CLGA for these elections.
