Opening Rally: Annual Pensioners’ Parliament -with John McDonnell

The politics of austerity are being used to undermine many of the gains that previous generations have fought for over the years, such as the NHS, decent pensions and universal benefits. Some are now suggesting that there is a gap between the generations whereby pensioners have escaped austerity at the expense of younger generations, when the reality is that the real divide in Britain is between the majority of the population and the wealthiest 1%. Britain’s biggest pensioner campaigning organisation, the National Pensioners Convention (NPC) has been at the forefront in trying to unite the generations in defence of the welfare state and public services, and are working with the new Labour leadership to develop positive policies for older people.
As part of this effort, Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell will be speaking at the opening rally of this year’s 3-day NPC Pensioners’ Parliament, at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool beginning at 2pm on Tuesday 14 June. All Momentum members and supporters are invited to attend – tickets priced £5 can be bought on the door. For more information contact or visit
